How to achieve your goals

What are you really looking for in your life? What is your dream? What would make you get up from your couch and work with perseverance, faith, enthusiasm and joy? If you have found it and it is the goal of your life, then all that remains is to achieve it.

Decide and commit deep inside yourself to achieve the goal by following the important steps below. These steps will help you stay focused on your goal and achieve it easier and faster.

  • Find what you really want to achieve. The first step is to clearly define what you are looking for. Describe it in as much detail as you can and make sure your goal is realistic and clear.
  • Set a date for achieving the goal. Make sure that this date is not too close nor too far away so that you do not lose interest and get disappointed.
  • Adopt new habits that will guide you and bring you one step closer to your goal every day. For example, if your goal is a slim figure, it automatically means a change in your eating habits and more exercise.
  • Write your goal on a piece of paper. A Latin proverb says “Scripta manent” (the writings remain). Place this paper in a conspicuous place, such as your nightstand, or put it in your wallet to take with you. Remember to look at it during the day. Use the present tense to write your goal and make sure it is measurable. For example “I earn 2,500 euros / dollars every month from my job as a company manager”.
  • Look for images, situations and surround yourself with items that are related to your goal and what you want to achieve. This will make you feel closer to your goal and keep you motivated.
  • The goal you set is solely yours. Therefore it should not include other people. For example, if you want to have an affair with Edward / Meryl, it is wrong to mention them in your written goal. But you can replace the name by writing “I am in a relationship with the ideal partner for me”.
  • Believe that you can do it. Always be confident that you can achieve the desired result without any doubt.
  • Ask for help. Talk to trusted friends who inspire you or professionals. Take advantage of the allies. Knowing where and how to get help is a sign of intelligence and flexibility.
  • Visualize. Visualize the moment you achieve your goal. Feel the emotions you would have and act as if you have what you want in your life now.
  • Only reveal your goals to people you trust. The last thing you want is negative feedback and criticism from others. Something that can weaken you and steal your valuable energy.
  • Keep track of your progress. Break your original goal into smaller ones and record each of your successful steps. Celebrate it, rejoice in it and reward yourself. It will keep you focused and empower you.
  • Be prepared for any obstacle that may arise. Take every failure as an opportunity for feedback and to find out what works well and what doesn’t.

I wholeheartedly wish you good luck!
